📜 September 18: On This Day in History | | Laying the foundation | Image: The Library of Congress | Each of the following events happened on September 18. Your challenge is to put them in the order in which they occurred by year, earliest to latest. Answers at the bottom! - A) George Washington lays the cornerstone to the US Capitol building, the home of the legislative branch of American government. The building would take nearly a century to complete, as architects came and went, the British set fire to it, and it was called into use during the Civil War.
- B) The 20,000-car parking lot at Canada’s West Edmonton Mall makes the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest parking lot in the world. At one time or another, the mall has held records for the World’s Largest Shopping Mall, the World’s Largest Indoor Amusement Park, and the World’s Largest Indoor Water Park.
- C) Future President Jimmy Carter files a report with the International UFO Bureau, claiming he had seen an unidentified flying object (UFO). Carter promised that, if elected president, he would encourage the government to release “every piece of information” about UFOs.
- D) All four members of KISS released solo albums simultaneously, a rare feat in the history of rock. The records were designed to look like a matched set, with striking painted portraits of each member and coordinated packaging.
Hint: George Washington was the 1st US President |
