• B) Walt Disney World Resort opens its doors to the public. The complex near Orlando, FL, features attractions based on beloved Disney stories and characters.
• C) Yankees legend Babe Ruth makes his famous “called shot” in Game 3 of the World Series, reportedly pointing to the center-field bleachers at Wrigley Field before hitting a home run to that spot. The Yankees would go on to win the World Series.
• D) The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) officially begins operations, after President Eisenhower signed a law creating America’s space program the previous July. NASA is established in response to Soviet Russia’s recent advances in space exploration.
