📜 October 6: On This Day in History | | Do it for the ‘gram | Image: Mashable SEA | Each of the following events happened on October 6. Your challenge is to put them in the order in which they occurred by year, earliest to latest. Answers at the bottom! - A) Instagram is first released to the public in Apple’s App Store, reaching 25,000 users on its first day.
- B) The first train robbery in US history is staged by brothers John and Simeon Reno, who make off with $13,000 from a railroad train in Indiana. The Reno brothers were the first to stop a moving train in a sparsely populated region, where they could carry out the theft without risking interference.
- C) The Jazz Singer, hailed as the first feature-length “talkie,” premieres and ushers out Hollywood’s silent era. While billed as the first film with synchronized dialogue, it only appears for ~2 minutes; the rest of the movie used titles.
- D) The Yom Kippur War, a surprise attack by Egyptian and Syrian forces on Israel, throws the Middle East into turmoil and threatens direct conflict between the US and the Soviet Union for the first time since the Cuban Missile Crisis. Though actual combat doesn’t break out, the events would seriously damage US-Soviet relations.
Hint: How much dialogue was in The Jazz Singer? |
