✈️ A solo plane crash involving former Olympian and social media influencer Trevor Jacob is being investigated by the FAA. Why? Well, he posted a 17-minute video in late November documenting his escape from the plane before it crashed in a forest ~50 miles north of Santa Barbara, CA... and it's a little suspect.

  • The entire saga is captured by cameras placed on the wings and interior of the plane, as well as a selfie stick carried by Jacob while he parachuted down, landed in some brush, and walked over to the crash site before hiking out.
  • In an Instagram post, Jacob said, "I promised myself I'd always fly that route with a parachute after a friend died on the same flight path, and it came in handy."
  • Immediately after posting about the crash, Jacob drew backlash from viewers questioning its authenticity and accusing him of staging the accident. (Here are the most common arguments.)
  • Destroying or damaging an aircraft on purpose is a felony under federal law, penalized by a fine or up to 20 years in prison.
