🚫🚘 Arizona-based startup Culdesac announced a $30 million Series A round to further its ambition of building America’s first “post-car neighborhood.” It’ll be located just outside of Tempe, AZ, and should be open to the public in a few months.

  • Culdesac Tempe is a 1,000-person neighborhood spanning 16 acres, complete with a grocery store, coffee shop, restaurant, bike shop, and coworking space.
  • If you’re thinking $30 million isn’t enough to build all of that, you’d be correct – the company says it’s already raised $200 million in real estate capital and plans to seek an additional $2 billion in debt.
  • The neighborhood offers a range of “modern mobility” perks in lieu of cars, including integrated scooter parking, designated e-bike garages, and $3,000/year in mobility benefits for all residents through a partnership with Lyft, Bird, Envoy, and Arizona Valley Metro.

+Looking ahead… Culdesac has already started to build a new set of neighborhoods, each 3x bigger than Culdesac Tempe. They’re all located in-or-around growing cities across the country.
