💬 Quoted… “A moderate to strong El Niño substantially increases the chance that 2024 will be the warmest year on record.”

In a report published yesterday, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said there’s a 90+% chance that El Niño – aka particularly warm ocean surface temperatures in the Pacific – will form sometime over the next three months and remain through at least the end of this year.

  • El Niño is associated with dryer seasons in the northern US and Canada, while the opposite is true for the US Gulf Coast and Southeast (which typically experience increased flooding).

🛍️ Stat of the Day: Returning items that were bought online is getting more expensive. An estimated 41% of all US retailers currently charge some kind of shipping fee for returned products, per logistics company Narvar; that’s up from 33% in 2021. A big reason for the rise? An estimated 15%-30% of online purchases in the US end up being returned.
