In a report published Friday, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said the US government will likely default on its debts in early June if Congress fails to raise the federal debt limit before then.

  • The CBO’s latest prediction is earlier than its previous estimate of July, which the agency said is due to lower-than-expected revenue from federal tax payments in recent months.
