💬 QUOTED: "A city that doesn’t care about the odds has a baseball team to match.”
Over the past month and a half, the MLB’s Detroit Tigers have been hotter than Chris Hemsworth doing deep-knee bends. The team has won 31 of its last 44 games, and put an exclamation point on this magical run by clinching a playoff berth on Friday.
A team of density destiny? When the streak began, the Tigers had a 0.2% chance to make the playoffs (1 in 500), according to FanGraphs. They sat more than a dozen games back in their division, and about the same from a wild-card spot.
But then the Motor City Kitties caught fire, thanks to a combination of timely hitting, a stellar pitching staff (including presumptive Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal), the subtraction of strikeout-happy SS Javier Baez, and the steady hand of manager AJ Hinch.
👀 Looking ahead… The MLB playoffs kick off tomorrow with the Wild Card matchups (which will be finalized later today).
