Which of the following best describes your personal stance on abortion?

It should be legal under any circumstances (42%) – "Anyone who decides to undergo an abortion procedure never chooses that without extreme stress and turmoil. No one can or should make that choice for them. It is theirs alone and must be safe and easily accessible."

  • "Pregnancy is complex and there are so many medical and non-medical reasons a person would choose to end a pregnancy. None of which are the business of the government, the church or their community. Pregnancy and especially childbirth, are dangerous in our country, AND it's expensive and taxing to raise children. We should work on fixing those issues rather than making normal, safe medical procedures a criminal act."

"I voted this way because it should be up to the person who is pregnant to make that decision. If they cannot support the baby when it is born, whether financially or physically, then they should have the right to get an abortion. Similarly, if the baby shows fatal signs while in the womb, then he person who is pregnant should choose whether or not to have an abortion. Once the government steps in and decides what to do for us, then they start to limit our rights, which the government is technically supposed to protect and uphold in any circumstance."

  • "I heard it said best on TikTok by a man, oddly enough. The right to not be pregnant should be everyone’s right. Just as the right to choose whether or not to donate one’s organs is everyone’s right. For example, no person is forced to donate their kidney to save someone else’s life. If all people are equal, then no one’s life takes precedence over another. That would be against the human rights we have as people. Each of us, a person. With bodily autonomy and the right to choose whether or not to use our body to save another’s life."

"I believe abortion is a decision a person makes based on her situation. She may need guidance from medical professionals and/or friends and family and it is never an easy decision. However, it it not something that should be legislated. I am definitely voting based on candidate's position re abortion and would not consider voting for anyone who will restrict women's reproductive rights."

It should be legal under most circumstances (26%) – "Although abortions should not be relied on as a form of contraceptive, access to this medical procedure maintains pregnant people's dignity during a stressful moment as they weigh their options. Banning abortions doesn't reduce the number of people seeking this service, it just risks the safety of the patient. Overall attacks on reproductive care tend to result in higher numbers of unwanted pregnancies, and I would not wish that difficult path onto anyone- much less force it upon someone."

  • "I think that every female has the right to choose what happens to her body, and that includes the decision to grow and birth a child. Regardless of any other factors morally or culturally regarding abortion, the ability to decide whether or not to physically grow a human should stand with the human whose body is impacted. I do think there should be some kind of legal mitigation to prevent late term abortion outside of specific medical situations -- once you've committed to a pregnancy enough that the child is basically formed, I personally feel that should be a situational change from abortion to adoption for unwanted babies. But it is also not my right to dictate what another female chooses to do with her own body."

"I feel that abortion should be the woman’s choice, within reason…late term VOLUNTARY abortions should be illegal. Period. However, there are news reports of women being criminally charged for INvoluntary late term pregnancy loss. This issue is NOT one size fits all. I have personally lost a child late in pregnancy and the thought of being criminally charged for something out of my control is incomprehensible. Men should NOT be making policy over women’s health."

It should be legal under only a few circumstances (18%) – "'Most circumstances' was a little too broad to choose. I think abortion should be legal up to a certain week of pregnancy. When people think of 10 weeks of pregnancy (eligible for the Mifepristone), they are usually thinking 10 weeks from conception... but clinicians typically date pregnancy from the first day of a person's last period, which can occur 11–21 days before conception (americanpregnancy.org). So, the 10 week mark could really be considered 7 weeks pregnant. About 20% of pregnancies are not known at the 7 week mark, so to expect people to know and have the abortion prior to this mark is a little too strict in my opinion. However, I do also believe that the responsibility to use protection and track your periods when having unprotected sex is something that people should take more seriously."

  • "This is a very difficult question because I believe the decision to have a baby or not should happen before conception. However, there are circumstances that put a woman in a situation she has no say, rape and incest. Carrying a baby is an intimate relationship between the mother and child. When the mother hates that baby because of a very violent act of conception then under those circumstances an early abortion should be legal. Or if unknowingly the mothers health is at risk and carrying a baby to term would cause her death then abortion should be legal. These cases should not be fought out in a court of law..... period."

It should be illegal under all circumstances (9%) – "I believe in the dignity of every human life from the moment of conception to the moment of natural death. While not everyone may hold the same believe, I cannot support any policy that deems it acceptable to end one life for the sake of another."

Unsure/other (5%) – "It’s hard for me to come to a definitive conclusion, it’s hard for most people, that’s probably why politicians won’t stop talking about it. I believe that everyone should be able to live the way they want as long as it doesn’t hurt others. But when does one’s life belong to them? In the womb? When in the womb? We will never agree on that. That argument will go on forever because there are many different answers with different reasons."
