In general, what’s your opinion of OpenAI?

Positive (28%) – "I like OpenAI. I use their tools every day. I'm not sure I'm crazy about this restructure, to be honest. I'd rather it be traded publicly than have a company that is still profiting people, but not everyone has the option to buy into it."

  • "A positive product that can be used in a negative way by an organization that is a mix of well meaning and not well meaning people (like any organization)."

Neutral (37%) – "Like anything, there are good and not so good results when compared to competition. In general, Anthropic's Claude does better than ChatGPT for my use. And xAI's Grok out performs Claude for some things. But what has blown me away is Google's Gemini Deep Thinking models - professional results. Now, we need to make these usable beyond chat and do real things (without human assistance (but with human oversight). That's where acquisitions come in. You need something to spend billions of dollars on besides chips and electricity."

  • "So I have a highly negative view of AI in general but relative to competitors like Musk’s xAI, Meta’s Llama, or even Google’s Gemini, my impression of OpenAI is fairly neutral. They are comparatively less untrustworthy, but it’s a very low bar."

"Like most people, I think, I know so little about it to form an intelligent opinion. Although that doesn't seem to slow some people down, does it?"

Negative (35%) – "AI can be incredibly helpful in our lives, but it takes more than it gives. And the way of which OpenAI's decisions are going is quite confusing as they try to move away from their non-profit status so that they can make more money, while trying to keep it for moral gain."

  • "Frankly, I dislike and distrust outsourcing my thinking and the thinking of people who are supposed to be experts, and I particularly distrust the kinds of people who are pushing this outsourcing with what seems to be minimal care for the ultimate impact on society and who are making quite a lot of money while they do it."

"Changing stances when convenient or beneficial to them, they don’t seem to actually represent what they say/value. Don’t seem genuine. And just money, money, money. Investments, valuation, profit. And I don’t see the correlation of that value and investment other than what we are being told. And I don’t believe them"
