All should be deported (17%) – "A country that lacks borders or proper immigration enforcement ultimately loses control over its sovereignty. Consistent law enforcement is crucial; when illegal entry or overstaying is excused, it undermines respect for the law across society. Furthermore, selective enforcement only serves to invite more illegal immigration, creating a cycle that is difficult to break. Fairness to legal immigrants is another important consideration. Millions of individuals choose to follow the legal immigration process, often waiting for years and investing significant amounts of money. Allowing others to bypass this system sends a troubling message: that obeying the law is optional. The economic impact on low-wage American workers is also significant. Undocumented workers can undercut wages, particularly in low-skill sectors such as construction and hospitality. As a result, U.S. citizens—especially working-class minorities—often find themselves missing out on job opportunities or better pay when businesses turn to cheap, illegal labor."
Deport everyone but workers in critical industries (10%) – "Deporting all illegals eventually is the best goal (they are technically criminals, often supporting criminal cartels to bring them), HOWEVER, it would be best to do it without hurting critical industries or the citizens running them so we need a process. A good process might be to take those in a 'critical' industry like agriculture or hospitality and document them using a Red, rather than Green type, card. Allowing them to be in the country for a certain amount of time (through harvest, until replaced by a legal worker) before having to return home. Set up a system with these features to vet and allow safe foreigners from 'safe' countries to come in and work without taking jobs away from US citizens with a 'pink' card, meaning they are documented and legal for an approved amount of time."
Deport only those convicted of additional crimes (41%) – "People cannot determine the situations they are born into. As Americans we are fortunate to have lived in an environment where the majority of us do not fell our lives threatened every day. Good people who have made the sacrifice to enter this country and have become productive members of society should be given the opportunity to remain within this country."
"I believe this is a complex issue. Illegal immigrants involved in other crimes should be deported immediately. Those here illegally but working should be allowed to apply for appropriate documentation with sponsorship from employers and NOT receive federal or state benefits (must be self-sufficient) - those who refuse to comply should be deported."
Don’t actively seek to deport (20%) – "I believe it's better to let people who are already living here stay here without the fear of being deported. Many of them work hard and have families to take care of. Deporting them can cause a lot of problems and hurt our communities. Not deporting them is fair and helps keep families and jobs safe. They already went through the troubles of coming here to look for a better life for themselves and their family so deporting them would be very unfair. Everyone deserves a chance at being happy and living their life so if they choose to do that here they should be able to."
Other (7%) – "I completely understand why people sneak in to the US. I might do the same thing in order to make sure my kids can eat. However, a country can not allow unfettered, open border immigration. It completely degrades the nation, trample the rights of it citizens and destroys assimilation along with the feeling of the immigrant that they are now American. I would propose that if an illegal has been here for more than 10 years, and has not committed any infractions of the law, including participating in riots, then they should be permitted a path to citizenship. I would say that if they voluntarily come forward then they immediately begin the process that legal immigrants go through. If they continue to hide, then they must be deported. Last, Congress must get their act together and pass a bipartisan, truly common sense immigration law."
Unsure (5%) – "We need an immigration policy from Congress before we deport everyone. A good policy will help determine who to deport now and who and how new immegrants will be determined. Congress needs to do its job."
