As the Iran war approaches the 50-day mark: do you support or oppose America’s role in the ongoing Middle East conflict?

Support (20%) – "I am not willing to gamble the future of the free, non-islamic world on the hope that Iran could responsibly possess nuclear weapons and not use them to advance their terroristic ambitions."

  • "Iran has threatened and attacked several countries in the area and supports terrorist organizations that threaten countries around the world. Iran also calls for the destruction of the United States and Israel and sponsors terrorist attacks on our ally Israel. Iran is working on nuclear weapons and delivery systems to threaten every country on earth. Stop them now before they can attack any other country with nuclear weapons."

Oppose (75%) – "This is a problem that didn't exist, that the United States created by interfering. Sure, a dictatorial leader is no longer in place, but we are not spending billions per day out of altruism or we would have supported Ukraine much more strongly in their struggle against Russia."

  • "While I don't think many would deny that Iran is a bad actor, we went in without a plan, no exit strategy, no support (or even a warning) of NATO and other allies, and underestimated Iran's capabilities. Since then, we've insulted allies and the whole thing is mess. I paid $72 to fill my gas tank last week, and prior to this, I think the highest I ever paid was $42 (and I was mad then!)."

"Why should the U.S. get to decide how everyone else operates? It's imperialistic to attack another country, naive (at best) or totalitarian to celebrate killing their leader, and completely ignorant to believe that this type of war would change anything. This administration is using bullying tactics because that's all they know and Iran is refusing to accept it. There's no, "it's my way or the highway" in war and compromise is something neither side recognizes as a viable option. People have died and will continue dying. Everyone pays the price, literally, every time we fill our gas tanks or go grocery shopping and there's no end in sight. This kind of thing doesn't lead to ideological change, it only reinforces it and even props it up. In the end, this war is going to do more damage than any good that could possibly come out of it, especially considering that the goal now is to try to get close to the agreement Obama made. Any deal that happens now will provide more autonomy for Iran than they previously had. All of this for a war that never went through the proper steps for approval and that our allies (to whatever extent they remain our allies) did not agree to support. It was NEVER a good choice."

  • "We had a treaty with Iran. Trump pulled out of it. Trump bombed Iran and claimed we had eliminated the nuclear threat. Then Trump waged 'war' against Iran, for unknown reasons. The story keeps shifting. Meanwhile, this 'war' has created not only regional, but international instability."

"Why are we killing people? Why are we spending money on this unwanted war? I fundamentally oppose war unless it's necessary for protection, and I would much rather see this money go towards our people. Additionally, Trump has lied to us over and over. He spreads messages of hate, and he's alienating our allies. And for what? Increased gas prices and loss of human lives."

  • "A carefully negotiated Iran nuclear treaty, which included on-site inspections - was signed during the Obama administration. Trump withdrew from the treaty, despite strong arguments from his own cabinet & staff. Trump's impudent and short-sighted negation of that milestone treaty led to his even more impudent, unnecessary and reckless war. This is his personal war, not America's war."

"The US had an agreement with Iran, which the current regime discarded. The whole world is suffering because the US president decided unilaterally to attack Iran when there was no imminent threat. Congress needs to step up and do its job. The people who are supposedly negotiating for the US are untrained in diplomacy, but are surely filling their own pockets with deals made in the Middle East. Meanwhile, our sons and daughters are paying the ultimate price for this folly. It needs to stop. The US has lost its standing with our allies. We will never be able to go back to the way things were before, and it will be decades, if ever, before we are trusted again after this fiasco."

Unsure/other (5%) – "My NO is due to ‘leadership’ by US political civilians at every level….no understanding of opponent, no plan…just bluster and retreat ..wash, rinse and repeat……YES for military’s involment and leadership if they were allowed into the entire process from pre day one to post day final…..Basically stated…this is not unlike Vietnam…there we fought the enemy in jungles but finally discovered they had tunnels we could not fully eliminate once we found them….here we find desert with tunnels that have been preparing for battle for decades…..5 P’s in play here."
