Do you support or oppose the recent trend of states redrawing their political maps mid-decade in an effort to gain House seats for their party?

Support (11%) – "If the population of a stare has changed, increased or decreased redrawing congressional districts should be required."

Oppose (78%) – "Gerrymandering is simply unethical, regardless of who is doing it. An unbiased consistent standard should be applied to all districts instead. Honestly, the political parties in the US only care about maintaining and growing their power, not the good of US citizens."

  • "I completely oppose this and both parties are guilty of this, I really hope that we have an uprising in our country against this…maybe the passage of a constitutional amendment initiated by voters that tries to restore some of the hallmarks of our democracy and election system. The cracks that we are seeing in our democracy right now with an Administration emboldened to abuse this, is really frightening. We need to remember that the United States is a young country and if we don’t do something to protect our fundamental values as a nation, we won’t be the United States of America for very long."

"Our politicians continue to be so short-sighted that they largely just fight over power (in this case redrawing districts) instead of actually trying to work together to fix our bridges, roads, hospitals, schools (I can go on and on). Of course I am opposed to this effort by the Republicans but sadly this will lead to the Democrats doing the same for retribution later on. And then somebody several years from now will be writing in and saying our politicians continue to so short-sighted that they largely just fight over power and...........you know the rest."

  • "Both parties have been gerrymandering for years and years. There should be a neutral party drawing the lines. This is ridiculous. We all deserve to have a fair vote. I can't be the only one done with the two party system."

"I am so discouraged by how unashamedly the people elected to represent the voices of Americans are working to silence the voices of constituents from the other party. This, more than anything else, confirms that our elected officials are no longer working for the American people."

  • "Any sane person should be disgusted by the idea that one party or another can legally gain an unfair advantage. If your party can't stand on policy, you shouldn't be able to game the system. Recent polls already show distrust in the government - why make it worse?"

"This process divides the states into two separate groups: Democrats and Republicans. Watching Ken Burns' American Revolution series, the strength of this country was and is its diversity of thought. How do we get that with our current political gerrymandering, and with each party feeling that its way is the only right way to be and to decide? Where are the dialogues and compromises? Where are the politicians who care more for the welfare and safety of the American people than party loyalty and support?"

Unsure/other (11%) – "It doesn't matter. The political system (two parties) sucks. The parties only interest is 'self interest'. Until we have individuals that realize we (citizens) are all different and don't fit in to two boxes we will have no solutions to improve our society. We currently have a dysfunctional group of politicians (both sides) that care more about party survival than finding real solutions to real problems."
