Do you support or oppose the Trump admin’s new tariffs on Canada?

Support (12%) – "Yes, other countries have been abusing the US in trade for years taking advantage of us and using it as 'foreign aid' to prop up their socialist/communist failing agendas. It's time to stop the 'gravy train' and let their policies stand on their own or, more likely, fail on their own without our support of policies against our most basic beliefs. Now we need to end the few instances of those policies here!"

Oppose (84%) – "We have a $40 Trillion debt and Canada is one of our biggest trade partners. These tariffs aren’t going to leverage more money for US but drive Canadians into buying goods from other countries, especially China. I feel for the American industries being hurt by all of these irresponsible tactics of this administration."

  • "Living in Buffalo, New York with the Canadian border minutes away this is a horrible way to treat our neighbors whose our area depends on for tourism and sales tax support when the it is cheaper for them to shop in the States. NAFTA may not be perfect, but the local Ford plant ships its part to the nearby Canadian plant. A local Congresional Representative in his Sunday newsletter touted how this is brining jobs back to the US, but I don’t see it and it is causing We the people to pay more for goods and is causing our entire country lose tourism dollars. It’s a give and take tariffs are not the whole picture."

"As an American, I fully support Canada in this ridiculous trade war against what was our closest neighbor and ally. It is the height of stupidity to damage this relationship, which has always been fully mutually beneficial for both countries. It's particularly gross that the administration is to trying so hard to inflict its culture war on Canada as well."

  • "They are our neighbor and 2nd most important trading partner... why would we raise prices on products for US consumers?"

"We are entering another stage of economic isolation. This will weaken the economy and could accelerate inflation, both of which are the opposite of what we would like to achieve. This will lead to higher prices for consumers, less choice, and lower productivity for industries that rely on foreign trade for manufacturing materials. This will also weaken our diplomatic and economic influence as we become more disconnected from the global markets. Overall, this will eventually lead to stagnation, inefficiency, and declining living standards for the majority of the country's population."

  • "As a Canadian these last minute attacks were insulting.our languages, rights to create trade deals, US veto on development, first right access to our minerals and other resources, and those auto tariffs didn't include trucks made in Canada. Follow it up with more asinine comments about being a 51st state and PM Carney did the right thing."

"I don't know what the thinking is for all these tariffs but what I do know is that it will cost everyday Americans more money. Companies aren't going to eat the 10%, 25%, or even 50% increase in the products they want to import. They will raise their prices or charge fees or add some sort of tax. They aren't going to let it go they are going to find a way to make the money back and that way is through our wallets."

  • "These new tariffs will cost Americans much more money. Canada is doing everything it can to be agreeable but still maintain their independence. They are trying to help us and Trump keeps making it worse."

Unsure/other (4%) – "Other nations have in the past received a better deal than the United States. They tax our exports to them more than we tax their exports to us. President Trump has been doing a good job of leveling the playing field."
