In general, do you agree or disagree with President Trump’s new executive order regarding the handling of mail-in ballots?

Support (28%) – "We have some of the weakest election integrity laws of any developed nation. In some countries, you must show up in person and vote by dipping your finger in ink to guarantee you only vote once. What is wrong with the US that we allow anyone to interfere in our elections?"

• "The American citizen has the right to know who is voting and if they should be allowed to legally vote. Many democratic controlled states favor allowing voting without proper ID and documentation. Too many illegals are allowed to vote I think the average American voter doesn't trust voting system anymore, especially in blue states."

"Our voting processes are a mess. Why is Florida able to count all votes and declare a winner in one night, while other states take weeks and weeks to do so. We all know there is cheating going no with mail in ballots. I don't think it's enough to swing an election, but it does sow division and decreases voter confidence in election outcomes. I can't see why anyone would be against ensuring free and fair elections."

Oppose (64%) – "I'm all in favor of election integrity and security but this isn't the way. Also - rushing the process and forcing additional steps that will cause confusion and more steps feel more likely to cost significantly more and result in more errors than the current system."

• "Federal government doesn’t get to tell states how to run elections. Full stop. I’m glad you clarified that the SCOTUS dropped the injunction but states can still change rules if the Postal Service rules are harmful. Because, they will be! Also why would we trust the PS?’ They lose mail and can’t balance their own budget!"

"Voting is a basic right in a free society. Voting should be easily accessible and carry as few restrictions as possible. Committing hours to stand in inefficient lines at a polling place is not possible for many working people. Mail-in ballots offer an excellent solution to that problem. This method has been available for many years, with no apparent problems. I find it very telling that the current President prefers to use mail in ballots himself, but opposes it for everyone else."

• "The US needs to do everything available to maximize the number of people voting. "We the people" need to let the data drive our decision. Does the data show the US has extensive mail in voter fraud? No! Curtailing the mail in vote is Trumps way of manipulating the vote."

"Trump is shrouding voter suppression with fear of voter fraud. Same old schtick he’s been up to this whole time. I didn’t trust it then, and I don’t trust it now. Department of Homeland Security—aka ICE aka Trumps private army—should not be in any way involved with a free and fair election process. Any real voter fraud instances have never been big or dangerous enough to warrant this kind of intervention, and are just being leveraged to suppress Democratic voter turnout."

• "I vehemently oppose this President's directives on voting. First it's a solution in search of a problem, as fraudulent voting by people who shouldn't be voting is so infetesmally minute it can be said to not exist. Secondly, and most importantly, it is a blanket attempt by the administration to supress voting. It's unconstitutional and the fact that the Supreme Court is taking a blind eye to this outright assault on democracy is extremely troubling. It's a page directly lifted from what illiberal authoritarian regimes use....."

Unsure/other (8%) – "I can see how shoring up our election security is a good thing, and some parts of the order seem like common sense solutions. But the timing is pretty bad given the upcoming midterms around the corner, so this should probably be tabled for debate ahead of future elections beyond 2026."
