Yes (14%) – "Because the White House does have the power. Yes, freedom of the press is a constitutional right, but having access to one of the most protected, concealed, and executive areas is a privilege, one that can be revoked."

• "I'm not sure why there are press coverage at all. Shouldn't there be a single written statement that all have access to at the same time? Followed by written, submitted questions with published answers, also available to everyone simultaneously? That levels the playing field for all journalists - not just the large publishers. While I don't like the restriction based on how they portray the message, they real problem is at the foundation of how briefings are executed - fix that and who has press credentials becomes a moot point."

No (79%) – "Freedom of press. Included is that the people have a right to hear from various sources - Trump says certain outlets give "fake news"- people should be able to determine that for themselves."

• "At the very least, Trump should need to demonstrate to a reasonable standard that their news coverage actually is “fake” and that the coverage of the non banned organizations is “true” but it’s self evident that is not the case. Arbitrary bans should not be allowed—reporting cannot be subject to the capricious whims of a president like Trump if we want to say we have a free press."

"If you are going to allow access to one news organization then all should be allowed otherwise it appears deceptive causing more distrust. You do not have to honor interviews or questions but there should be transparency in press events."

• "First of all, the First Amendment protects freedom of the press. The protection is specifically intended to prevent the government from controlling journalism based on its viewpoint, which is what journalism actually is. While the president is allowed to criticize the press, he is also allowed to disagree with the press & he is allowed to call reporting unfair or inaccurate, I do not think that he can use the power of government to punish a news organization for expressing a viewpoint dislikes. He’s taking things way too far now."

"If an outlet’s stories are proved to be purposely wrong then there is the route of a lawsuit but banning a news organization simply because the president or other government official doesn’t like what they say is a very slippery slope that can lead to state run media. If you enter politics you need to develop a thick skin and be able to accept there will be negative coverage as well as positive coverage. If a news outlet is providing “fake news “ then provide proof to correct the narrative."

• "Well for one reason it's flat out unconstitutional and violates the First Amendment's protection of press freedom. The administration, while it can control access cannot outright ban press organizations in the capricious manner it did. "If a news agency is reporting facts, regardless of their political interpretation of those facts, I believe they should have as much access as any other news agency. This is the American way - freedom of the press and open discussion of views on all sides. This president seems to be very sensitive about any unfavorable interpretations of his policies."

• "The President is the servant of the people his actions are news and should be open to all the people and not subject to his whim or hurt feelings over the news interpretation of those actions. The only exceptions possibilty very strict national security matters,then only if no other news outlets are barred."

Unsure/other (7%) – "News organizations should not be banned based on their coverage, but the organizations that have access should have to pass muster based on their ability to report actual facts. A certain level of spin is understandable. A history of proven falsehoods is another."
