ππ¦ The Sweet Spotlight | | Welcome to the brotherhood, Benji | Images: John Christopher/Neal Rachal | Five years ago, Debbie LaFleur and her husband, Joseph, lost their beloved Yorkshire Terrier named Kingston. The spoiled Yorkie enjoyed sitting on a swinging chair on the porch of their Lake Charles, Louisiana, home, loved vanilla ice cream, and even had a tiny miniature navy blue jersey that said βKINGSTONβ on the back in white letters. Needless to say, the missing Kingston was very loved. The couple searched and searched for their boy to no avail, ultimately assuming the tiny dog had either been scooped up by another family or lost forever. - The couple was understandably devastated. Then tragedy struck Debbie again, when Joseph passed unexpectedly two years later.
- As she grieved the loss of her husband, Debbie received an email that Kingston had been foundβhalf a decade later. The widow thought it was a joke.

| An adventure to rival Homeward Boundβ¦It turns out, Kingston had gone on quite the journey. - He showed up 250 miles away at the Kappa Sigma house at the University of Southern Mississippi, and had been adopted by the fraternity brothers as one of their own. They even gave him an honorary induction into the Greek organizationπ.
- The young men named the βstrayβ Benji and spoiled him rotten during his time at the frat house. It wasnβt until one of the brothers brought the dog into the vet for a routine checkup that they discovered he had a microchip with Debbieβs info on it.
The fraternity brothers contacted Debbie as soon as they found out, promising her they would care for Kingston/Benji until she could make the four-hour drive to the school to pick him up. The reunion: When Debbie walked up to the house earlier this month, Kingston was as ecstatic as ever to see his Mom. And while the fraternity brothers were sad to see their honorary brother go, they were happy to reunite him with his family. More than anything, Debbie is grateful to have a piece of her late husband back with her. - βIt has truly helped my grief from losing my husband,β she told the Washington Post ($). βI feel like I have a piece of him back with Kingston.β

π₯β In partnership with Rarebird | | When coffee became the enemy, Rarebird saved the day | A review from Kendra, our copywriter for The DONUT Studio Team | I couldn't function without my morning coffeeβuntil my body started rejecting it. Shakes/anxiety, stomach issues, sleep disruption, the works. I had to quit completely. Then I tried Rarebird's dark roast. Game changer. Surprisingly smoothβI actually drink it black now, which blows my mind. No jitters, no stomach upset, just natural energy and focus. They use PX instead of regular caffeine, so your body doesn't work overtime processing it. Now I look forward to coffee again instead of dreading side effects. |

πΈ Pic of the Week | | Here comes the sun...fish | Image: CNN | π How do you cheer up a lonely fish? Employees at the Kaikyokan Aquarium in Shimonoseki, Japan, were faced with this tricky question when their sunfish became sick and depressed after the aquarium closed for renovations. After trying many things to remedy the fish, one employee took a long shot and suggested that maybe the fish was simply lonely. Turns out, they were completely right. Cardboard cutouts of peopleβs faces with aquarium uniforms were placed by the glass...and the sunfish perked up overnight and began eating again. All he needed was a little companyβ€οΈ. +Note: This story previously appeared in a Jan. 2025 edition. |
