πŸ… From garden to lifeline

Images: CNN

More than 30 years ago, Floridian Bill Brown planted a small vegetable garden. When the harvest came in bigger than expected, he shared the extras with his neighbors.

And this simple act of generosity didn’t stop at the fence lineβ€”it grew into The Children’s Table, a nonprofit food bank that has since quietly fed thousands of families across Florida.

How the Children's Table works

On distribution days, the setup is simple: a suggested $10 donation gets families $100–$150 worth of groceries, no questions asked. And if someone can’t pay? They still leave with food.

  • An average of around 200 cars pass through each week, some lining up more than an hour early.
  • The wait can stretch half a mile down the road, but the payoffβ€”fresh produce, pantry staples, and a sense of communityβ€” is considered worth it.

β€œMr. Bill” is still at the heart of it all. His food bank stretches across 10 counties, many of which are considered β€œfood deserts” where access to fresh produce is scarce.

Oh, and did I mention that he’s 96?

When asked how he still does it week in-and-out, Mr. Bill shared that he’s simply β€œβ€˜too busy to lay down and die.” The nonogenarian will continue to distribute food as long as he’s able.

Volunteers call him β€œa ray of sunshine in the darkness,” and CNN has nominated him as one of their 2025 Heroes. As for Bill? "Helping is contagious,” he said. β€œI’m privileged when I can help someone.”

Brilliant minds are waiting to shine

Right now, a child sits without a classroomβ€”her dreams of healing others put on hold not by lack of talent, but by lack of a building. Thinking Huts uses 3D printing to build solar-powered schools that change everything for children like her.

Your donation creates immediate impact: $25 prints a classroom wall, $100 funds local construction teams, $1,000 powers an entire solar campus.

Thinking Huts is $19k away and facing a Sep. 2nd deadline to complete a school that will serve generations; every donation makes a difference

Golden hour moment

Image: Gurcharan Roopra

Photographer Gurcharan Roopra spent hours in near-total darkness, waiting in silence by a watering hole in Kenya to capture this shot.

His patience paid off: a giraffe bent down for a drink and, with one click, he caught a fleeting, β€œalmost mythical” arc of motion.

This shot, β€œA Brushstroke of Gold,” is now part of Prints for Wildlife 2025, a fundraiser that brings together 200+ of the world’s top nature photographers. Their prints are sold to raise money for Conservation International, which protects biodiversity, restores ecosystems, and supports the communities who live closest to the wild.

❀️ Just because it's cute: See the mindblowing moment a toddler makes a tennis ball disappearπŸ˜‰. I'm not sure who’s more baffledβ€”the little one or the family dog.

πŸ’ Dena O. from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, is celebrating a major milestone…

  • β€œToday my husband and I are celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. It was hard work, but we made it and love each other more every day. Here is to another 30!”

πŸ’ͺ Bill D. from Solana Beach is proving that anything is possible…

  • β€œI won my age group by 5 minutes at the Solana Beach Triathlon. This was supposed to be the year I got my knee replacement after 2 painful years, but after a few cortisone shots, I rode my bike more, hiked more, and built up the muscles around the knee. Hanging in there, I crossed the finish line unbeaten in my 65- 69 age group. Triathlons can be as frustrating as golf, but the community is the big reward.”
