📜 April 8: On This Day in History | | Hammerin’ Hank | Image: LA Times | Each of the following events happened on April 8. Your challenge is to put them in the order in which they occurred by year, earliest to latest. Answers at the bottom! - A) Hank Aaron of the Atlanta Braves hits his 715th career home run, breaking Babe Ruth’s legendary record. He’s cheered on by a crowd of 53,775 people, the largest in the history of Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium.
- B) 18-year-old Ryan White dies of pneumonia after contracting AIDS from a blood transfusion. He had initially been given six months to live, but defied expectations and lived for five years, with time his story helping to educate the public and dispel widespread misconceptions about HIV/AIDS.
- C) Britain and France sign an agreement resolving long-standing colonial disputes in North Africa and establishing a diplomatic understanding between the two countries. It would later be known as the Entente Cordiale.
- D) Magician David Copperfield pulls off one of his most audacious illusions: making the Statue of Liberty "disappear" in front of a live audience on Liberty Island.
Hint: Aaron hit the 2nd pitch of his at-bat over the fence |
