Strongly agree (46%) – "Nuclear Power is cleaner and more efficient than fossil fuels. We need it to reduce our carbon emissions. Modern plants are much safer and have many more failsafes in place to prevent disasters. But even if there were a disaster, it wouldn’t compare to the damage being done by fossil fuels to the entire globe. Nuclear must be an option, along side renewable energy sources."
"Nuclear is some of the cleanest energy in the world, on balance. Yes, waste is produced; we have time to figure out what to do with it. It's less harmful right now than emissions. Emergencies and accidents will happen and will have to be well-managed, but I think in relation to the benefit, we should have been pushing for the use of nuclear years ago."
Agree/Somewhat agree (27%) – "Caution and oversight are obviously needed, but nuclear power tech has improved over the years and I think its fair to give nuclear another go. Especially if its the only way we are going to make a big transition away from fossil fuels. Nuclear is an acceptable alternative for many who don't want to support wider solar/wind generation."
"I strongly believe that developing nuclear energy could be a huge boon to the US and global climate change. However, I'm very concerned about the way in which we are going about it. The only reason the current administration is pushing nuclear energy is because giant AI corporations would benefit from it, not because it would help the environment and the populace. My biggest concern is that nuclear energy requires very strong safety measures to prevent widespread disaster and in order to ensure those measures are being used, government oversight would be mandatory. The way the current administration is destroying safety oversight in other fields, I just don't see them keeping nuclear regulations intact. When profit is the only motive, corners are going to be cut, and with a topic like nuclear power plants, that's pretty scary."
Neutral (9%) – "I'm really on the fence with nuclear power. I understand the ups of it and we need to do something to reduce greenhouse gases, but there have been several nuclear disasters that seem to indicate we need to have a better handle on it before we put more people at risk."
Disagree/Somewhat disagree (11%) – "No permanent solution has been worked out to store the radioactive waste. No state government wants it stored anywhere in their state. The storage issue must be solved first."
Strongly disagree (7%) – "Our inability to control meltdown and the out fall from a disaster is not worth the power provided. We have the ability to harness wind and sun and water for power without disrupting or destroying our home. Do we really need SkyNet to get bigger, or do we desperately need to protect our home planet for our kids and the generations to come after them?"
