Support (27%) – "I encourage and support any action that leads to cessation of the bombing. It appears Iran is willing to negotiate but between Israel still bombing southern Lebanon and President Trump saying inflammatory remarks, I sometimes wonder exactly what is happening. One step forward and two steps back seems to method of negotiating."

• "Iranians are extremist who cannot and will not be tamed. Obama did our country and our safety a huge disservice when he gave them money. It brought us to where we are now, defending our safety. Trump does not have an easy task by any means nor is there a perfect solution to placate everyone, but he does have the right approach. You meet terrorists who have no regards for any life with force."

"If POTUS can get Israel to stand down for a time on Hezbollah, we might actually make progress. It would also be helpful if Trump could refrain from making inflammatory remarks. That doesn't help the situation. Overall, I have no faith that Iran will end their nuclear program, or even scale it back to peaceful uses."

Oppose (51%) – "Iran has proven itself to be full of deceit and misdirection. They operate via and ideology that openly believes lying is a valid way to get what they want...which is Israel's destruction and middle east control. The Obama peace deal only proves that they cannot be trusted."

• "We had a solution - the JCPOA - until Trump pulled us out. Now he’s desperately trying to clean up the mess he made while blaming the “radical left lunatics” and costing us not just money, but human lives as well."

"I’m pretty conservative - unlike most of your readers. I’m also pretty experienced with international relations after a lifetime military career. To be successful in international affairs you must understand how the other side thinks. It’s completely different than how we think - in every way. These guys have been chanting death to America since they were in diapers. That won’t stop. Need to get that element out of there before we can start to make any progress in peace talks. They would rather kill us all and they will keep playing the long game. We as a society don’t have a mentality for the long game and they know that. They can wait us out and we will replace our leaders. They won’t."

Unsure/other (22%) – "While I support most of the provisions in the plan, I am wholly opposed to giving any monetary compensation to Iran. Until they drop their support of terrorist organizations like Hezbollah, and cease all efforts at uranium enrichment and allow international inspectors to verify such, they should be under such severe sanctions that they cannot function."

• "I can't say I support or oppose it--it's simply tacitly acknowledging that the whole war was a tremendous waste of resources and effort that accomplished nothing. Everyone involved is in a worse place than they started, with lives lost and so much damage to the world economy that there will be ripple effects for years to come. In an ideal world, all countries considering similar aggressive action would look at Russia's attack on Ukraine and the United States' on Iran and reconsider whether any of it has been at all worth it. Sadly I don't think we live in that ideal world and the lessons will not have been learned."
