In general: do you think all, some, or none of the immigrants living in the US illegally should be deported?

All (23%) – "Immigrants who are here legally should stay. Illegal immigrants are breaking laws. Citizens should not be allowed to break laws without repercussions so most certainly illegal immigrants should face consequences. By no means does any of this mean any human ought to be abused or treated inhumanely."

• "I understand that economical pressures are keeping agricultural pay low and most legal residents won’t take these jobs. However, if the large labor force was removed, we will find that employers will increase wages in order to get workers. Yes, prices will go up for groceries but we will see wages go up as well."

Some (57%) – "I believe criminals should be arrested and deported as the jails in the US are already overcrowded. However, good, hard working people trying to make a better life for themselves should be given the opportunity to do so."

• "I would rather Congress focus on creating legal pathways to gain citizenship in the United States, especially for people already here and contributing to the economy and society. Between tariffs and ICE raids, we are going to face a similar supply chain shortage and worker shortage like we did after the pandemic. The administration’s focus on both of these areas is so extreme, unnecessarily, and is going to do more harm than good."

"I work in immigration. We need newcomers for a variety of reasons that benefit our economy. The system is so complicated and backlogged that it is very difficult to follow proper channels or do things the “legal” way. Add language barriers, and it’s a system almost impossible to navigate. Of course we don’t want criminals, but most people are just looking for a better life. Until the whole system gets an overhaul, it’s unfair to be vindictive toward people who are doing their best to be good members of society."

• "If there are people who illegally crossed our border in the dark of night without seeking the proper documentation living in the US, they should be humanely deported. Asylum seekers, those on the path to and awaiting citizenship, workers with work visas, students with education visas, legal spouses, and green card holders who have taken the steps to be in the US legally should not be targeted for deportation just because the whim of the current resident of the People’s House is to change the rules on the fly. It takes years to get through the system of seeking asylum and becoming a citizen. These people have done nothing wrong."

"Of course there are always going to be some people here illegally who maybe should be deported....but not like this But rounding up people in herds like cattle, loading them up into vans and sending them off to who knows where without giving their friends and loved ones a way to contact them is wrong. Deporting criminals is one thing but they are rounding up students and children (who had no say in coming here). They are taking people who were here legally but then they altered a rule and now all those people who have been here legally forever now have to live in fear. It's one thing to round up people who are here 100% illegally it is another to change the rules without warning and then say sorry we know we said you were allowed here before but now we change our mind."

• "As someone who worked in criminal prosecution, I actually don't think we should be deporting violent criminals. The fact is that it isn't that hard for them to reenter the US again, giving them another opportunity to hurt people. In fact, victims of violent crime committed by illegal immigrants often don't support the deportation process, because they have no way of keeping track of where the person who hurt them is, which is often a top priority for victims. I would very much prefer that truly violent people face accountability for their crimes here in the US."

None (20%) – "They are humans. Let’s treat them with respect and dignity. Let’s focus our efforts at resolving the reasons why these people fled their homeland in the first place. Solve those problems, and people will not feel like they need to flee to the U.S. for safety."

• "With only around 6% having criminal records, which, by the way, the President also has, the time and taxpayer dollars going to this engagement is ridiculous. It’s only hurting industries that are having trouble hiring in the first place."
