Yes (67%) – "AI has exemplified all the signs of a bubble, not least of which is the ballooning infrastructure for a technology that outstrips its usage. One of its many problems. But keep in mind the old adage: “The market can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent.”
"The financial deals initiated by the Hyperscalers are done today and take several weeks or months to trickle down the news cycle before that information reaches the public. As an example, the Hyperscalers have issued almost a quarter of a TRILLION dollars in their own bonds to finance their AI buildouts. Before their push to build out their own AI goals, they would use their own cash liquidity to purchase companies or technologies that paired with their business model. To me, the fact that some of the wealthiest companies in the world have to borrow money in order to finance their goals is a red flag. If AI doesn't generate the kind of revenue they are hoping for, the piper must be paid. This could be a "pop" or this could be an explosion. My own belief is that one or more of the Hyperscalers could be seriously damaged. If that were to happen, I damn well do not want any kind of government bailout."
"My opinion, and I preface it by saying I am neither an economist nor a AI tech worker, is that this period seems very reminiscent of both the "Tech Bust" of 1999-2000 and the housing bust that precipitated the financial crisis of 2006-2010 (the repurcussions of which we still feel twenty years later). Add to that an administration and majority party in Congress that are all too cozy with the "Tech Barons" and irrationally refuse to enact safeguards and regulatory oversight of the industry and the result is a very economically dangerous situation. With high consumer prices, high interest rates, and the relative decline of wages to prices, a "AI Bust" could very well precipitate a depressed economy and lead us to one of the most difficult of economic phenomenon: stagflation.... Been through that once before and I have NO interest in revisiting now."
No (18%) – "No, I think AI may be inflated right now, and may pull back, but it will grow again. It powers everything, now. Unless humanity, as a collective, decided we were no longer going to pursue AI (which would not be a bad thing), AI is here to stay and will be a good investment."
Unsure/other (15%) – "I'm hoping it will be more of a slow deflation, but "pop" is also a reasonable expectation."
