- C) The infamous “Lufthansa heist” occurs, with half a dozen masked robbers raiding the Lufthansa Airlines cargo building at JFK Airport in New York. The thieves made off with ~$6 million in what’s widely considered one of the greatest heists in US history.
- D) Stockbroker Bill Wilson takes his last drink of alcohol after a 13-year struggle with addiction, citing a religious experience as his reason for sobriety. The following year, he would establish the groundbreaking treatment program Alcoholics Anonymous.
