Each of the following events happened on March 11. Your challenge is to put them in the order in which they occurred by year, earliest to latest. Answers at the bottom!

  • A) Cops, a documentary-style TV series that follows police officers as they go about their jobs, debuts on Fox. Cops goes on to become one of the longest-running shows in television history.
  • B) One of the worst blizzards in US history strikes the Northeast, killing 400+ people and dumping as much as 55 inches of snow in some areas. At the time, approximately 1 in 4 Americans live in the affected area between Washington, D.C., and Maine.
  • C) The World Health Organization declares Covid-19 to be a global pandemic. The disease eventually spreads to every corner of the globe, with 750+ million people contracting the virus and 7+ million attributed deaths.
  • D) Japan experiences its largest earthquake in recorded history (magnitude 9.1), triggering a tsunami wave that decimates the Tōhoku region. The tsunami also causes a meltdown at the nearby Fukushima nuclear plant, forcing the relocation of 100,000+ people in what’s considered the second-worst nuclear disaster in history.

Hint: The Fukushima plant had three operational nuclear reactors.
