On the whole, do you support or oppose the Trump admin’s new oil deal with Venezuela’s government?

Support (22%) – "It appears that this 'deal' is not a gift for industry, as might be inferred by such actions from past administrations, but is a boon for both countries. Helping Venezuela get back on it's 'democratic' feet leaving failed socialist despotery behind, and also help our defense dept and oil supply with competition for lower pricing. A just reward for ridding the country of a parasitic government and security threat for the US as a haven for illegal activity and unsavory hostile governments."

  • "Though I do think some of the details are sketchy, anything that could help us rely less on the Middle Eastern countries is a good thing. If we can get this deal, and Venezuelan politicians agree, it's a good thing for the United States."

Oppose (64%) – "Hate the current oil prices, but at the same time we are not living in the imperialist world of the late 1800s/early 1900s especially when the Pentagon is going to be involved whose budget keeps growing. Little support for our people and it sounds like this will not be good for the people of Venezuela either."

  • "This is a farce with Venezuela under duress, clearly militarily threatened by a war mongering president. Once trump is gone, and the invasion threat, there’s no way of knowing what the Venezuelan government will. I wouldn’t invest in it."

"The Trump Administration needs to stop with unsustainable side deals that are bandaid fixes and work with Congress and Democrats to address the real problems we have right now in our country and stop making new problems. If we want to lower the price of gas, we shouldn’t have picked a trade war with Canada, which provides us with the crude oil we need."

  • "I think we entered Venezuela illegally and we have continued to ride roughshod over the government and are stealing from the country and its citizens."

"As with many of President Donald Trump’s ventures, this arrangement appears designed to consolidate influence and advance the interests of those closest to him. In Delcy Rodríguez, Trump has found a partner whose political ambitions align with his own: both seem willing to leverage public power for personal and political advantage. The most revealing aspect of the relationship is Rodríguez’s willingness to follow Trump’s guidance while disregarding Venezuela’s constitutional constraints—mirroring Trump’s own pattern of testing, and at times overlooking, the limits of the U.S. Constitution."

  • "This "agreement" is illegal on many levels. It is illegal according to the Venezuelan Constitution. It is illegitimate in the standards of international law as the legitimacy of the Venezuelan government is questionable, at best. Aside the legitimacy issues, the run down nature of the Venezuelan oil industry's infrastructure means this could take years to get to the point of real productivity. Finally, it perpetuates the idea that we are only interested in Latin America purely to expropriate resources which very well could lead to radical anti-US sentiment throughout the region."

Unsure/other (14%) – "It seems this "shirt" has some of the colors of both capitalism and socialism woven in it. Is this the truly elected government of the people of Venezuela agreeing to this deal? If not, would any American investments in the future be nationalized again? If that were to happen, would the US take military action to prevent that? If we are a "free market" society, why aren't the big players in the petroleum industry making the first move? Lord knows, they have made some great profits recently. Going forward, does the Department of Defense become an investor in commodities around the world? This "deal" smells a lot like our little "excursion" in Iran. Not very thought out for the long term. The gentleman with close ties to Darcy is another red flag. Nothing surprises me anymore. Stay tuned."
